COLNE MARKET HALL

The £4.8m development, which includes £3m from the Government, will create a brighter and more modern market hall.

ABOUT COLNE MARKET HALL

Colne Market Hall is undergoing a major transformation following the award of funding aimed at improving the space for both businesses and shoppers. Plans include creating a more vibrant and functional environment to boost the local economy.

As part of a wider vision, Pendle Borough Council is exploring the feasibility of developing a creative quarter. This could include artists’ studios, workshops, and a co-working space on the upper floor of the market hall, enhancing opportunities for the creative community.

Construction work began in January 2024, after planning permission was granted in December 2023. In the meantime, most market traders have temporarily relocated to the former Poundland unit on Hartley Square.

Shaw’s Greengrocers – VEG-IT is now trading from Richmonds Court, directly opposite the market.

Work in progress, Colne Market Hall.

TRANSFORMING COLNE MARKET HALL

The £4.8m development, which includes £3m from the Government, will create a brighter and more modern market hall.

An attractive outside area will allow more space for events and there will be a food hall inside.

Plans for the upstairs area above the market hall are being developed and could include creative studios, a co-working space and retail units.

The work is a key part of reinvigorating Colne to attract more people into the town centre, boosting the day and night-time economy.
